BCP Display Blitz
This is a photo of our old display. We decided it needed a face lift. Scroll down and have a look at what we did.
First the old wall on the left hand side was knocked down in preparation for the new colonial sandstone planter box.
The footing was dug out and the trench mesh with starter bars was laid in place before the footing was poured.
Once the concrete was cured it was time to lay the blocks. Every second coarse, two horizontal reo bars were placed in the block rebate.
After the laying was complete the blocks were core filled with concrete. Later a 10mm coat of waterproof cement render
was applied to the inside of the planter box.
Next the garden edges and Rumbled Cobblestone edging was placed into a concrete bed.
The next step was to build the circular garden bed using Garden Edge Stone blocks, which can be seen on the right.
A peg was hammered into the ground and using a string line and a can of spray paint, a circular footing was marked out.
After the foundation was dug and the concrete poured the first coarse was laid into the wet concrete.
Once the concrete had set sufficiently the rest of the blocks were laid, back filling with topsoil as we went along.
Next was to pull up the old paving and re screed the area in preparation for the new paving.
Once the area had been screeded we started laying the pavers, working from one end and bedding the pavers down with a rubber mallet as we went. A 2mm to 4mm gap was maintained between each paver.
We kept checking that the coarses were straight with the use of a string line.
Once the pavers were laid, Paveset was swept the into the joints and a plate vibrator was used to bed the pavers down.
After that the excess Paveset was swept off, making sure no sand was left on the pavers
as it would leave a stain when the sand sets. Now a garden hose with a fine spray was used to wet the pavers enabling the Paveset to cure. Care was taken not to blast
the pavers with water, which could cause the sand to wash out of the joints.
The next step was to lay the Bull Nose Capping as edging and install the stepping stones.
We completed the display with complimentary pebbles, shrubs and flowers.
